Unif1ed HRM: workforce management connected to biometric devices

Workforce systems and security systems keep meeting at the same place: the door. Somebody presents a credential, and two different systems want to know about it — one to decide whether to open, another to record that the person arrived. When those run separately, the same event is captured twice and reconciled by hand.

One workforce layer

Connecting attendance capture to the employee record removes that reconciliation. The terminal at the entrance feeds the system that already holds the person, their role, their shift pattern and their leave, so a missed punch is an exception to be approved rather than a row to be retyped, and a leaver is removed once rather than in two places.

Time and attendance

The design work is in the rules, not the wiring. Shifts, leave types, overtime, approval routes and the reports finance needs at period end all have to be agreed first, because they determine what the devices must capture. Get the rules right and the hardware is straightforward; get them wrong and no amount of hardware makes the reports usable.
